Just Doing My Job 36 × 24 inches | Mixed Media on Canvas
My biggest source of stress is parking. San Diego’s Special Event Parking rates can reach $10 per hour. Those costs affect me, my staff, my collectors, and every guest who attends a program at The Hyangle.
When I question parking enforcement officers the response is almost always the same:
“I’m just doing my job.”
This painting is my response.
I’m just doing my job too.
As an artist, my responsibility is to tell the truth about my experience. I am NOT mad with San Diego police department. This work isn’t about blaming individuals. It’s about documenting how public policy can quietly shape the emotional and financial lives of the people who work and live here. This 32x26in canvas was made with real parking tickets I have accumulated downtown San Diego.
This painting is a reminder that despite the stress, I still have a job to do.
